Abstract
621,261. Temperature-responsive actuating-elements. CLARKE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., H. B., and TARRY, H. Feb. 12, 1947, No. 4096. [Class 64(ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] in a power thermostat comprising a pellet 16, e.g. of wax and powdered copper, which expands on heating and moves an elastic plug 20 (from which it is separated by a flexible diaphragm 17) which slides along a tubular guide forcing a piston 21 outwards, the bore of the tubular guide 19 is smoothly constant throughout the whole length in which the plug is slidable. The device may be of double form as shown, to reduce breakdown risk, but may also be of single form. In the double form, two housings 10, 11 have a dividing wall 12 between them and a cooling fin 13. The diaphragm 17 (which like the plug 20 may be of synthetic rubber) is held down by the flanged end 18 of the tubular guide over the pellet. On cooling, a spring or the like (not shown) returns each piston. Specification 576,779 is referred to.
