[Class 94(i)] A machine for bundling rod shaped articles comprises a conveyer belt carrying a plurality of containers formed by a number of jaws mounted for inward and outward movement and forming a ring like holder into which the articles may be loaded and held whilst a band is affixed, automatic means being provided to operate the jaws to close and hold the bundle and then open to release the bundle. As shown, applied to bundling firewood, the chopped sticks are introduced into a performated sorting drum 10 from which they fall on to a jigging conveyer which arranges the bundle and delivers them onto a narrow conveyer 24 from which they are removed manually and placed into one of a number of open ring like holders 32 mounted on a conveyer 29 moving in the same direction as the conveyer 24. The holder may have four movably mounted jaws which are operated by cams cooperating with a stop pin 48 which closes the jaws and allows a wire to be fixed round the bundle. A second stop pin 49 opens the jaws and allows the wired bundle to be ejected, by a pin 44 and a plate cooperating with a cam 50, on to an adjustable stacking conveyer 51. The ring- like holders may be constructed as illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) and the wire twisted by hand or by the device illustrated in Fig. 4 (not shown).
