Class 143 [Also in Group XXX] In a machine for weighing articles being carried on a conveyer, a section of the conveyer consists of a number of spaced parallel narrow belts, beneath which there is a weighing platform supporting' a number of spaced strips which are automatically raised up between the conveyer belts so as to lift the article to be weighted off the conveyer and so transfer its weight to the weighing platform. The plate carries a, number of spaced strips 24 which can rise between, the spaced conveyer belts 7, Fig. 1, when raised by links 26, Fig. 2, which are pivoted to the plate 22 and have meshing portions 31, 32, and are secured to transverse rods 28, 29 which may be rotated by an arm 33 secured to rod 28 and raised by a cam 39 driven from a continuously rotating shaft by a single revolution clutch 34. The plate is locked in its upper position by an arm 51, Figs. 2 and 3, secured to rod 28 and held by a spring-loaded catch 46 pivoted to the weighing platform so as to ensure that the entire weight of the article to be weighed is transferred to the weighing platform. A cam 41, also driven by the clutch 34, trips the catch 46 after the weighing. The weighing operation is initiated by the feeler arm 59, Fig. 1, engaging the article to be weighed and releasing a pawl 36 to engage the clutch 34. In a modification, Figs. 6 to 8 (not shown), the feeler arm is mounted on . a block carried by a slide. so as to be adjustable for articles of different sizes. The arm closes contacts to energize a solenoid tripping the clutch engaging mechanism.
