Abstract
620,297. Automatic temperature-control systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). May 22, 1944, No. 9819. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a temperature-control system, current through the windings 35 of a relay (see Group XXXVII) passes also through a resistor 40 with a negative temperature coefficient. The resistor 40 is subject to the temperature to be controlled and when this, say, rises, the resultant increase of current through the windings 35 causes the windings 36 to be overpowered and the armature 26 to close contacts 27, 27<SP>1</SP>, thereby completing a circuit to a relay 49 controlling a motor 43 so that this moves and operates a shutter 42 to lower the temperature and also operates the arm 51 of a resistance switch so as to increase the current in windings 36. Eventually, owing to the temperature drop the armature 26 is restored to its mid-position. In a modification, the arm 51 is adjustable by hand and serves to determine the temperature that is maintained.
