[Class 135] [Also in Group XVIII] A prepayment gas meter auto-valve a, adapted to allow continued but restricted flow when credit is exhausted, is mounted on a counterbalanced or (as shown) pendulous lever h, a part d of the prepayment mechanism holding it clear of its seat c when the prepayment mechanism is in credit. When the credit is exhausted the part d releases the valve which then assumes a position, determined by the balance of the lever and inlet gas pressure, permitting gas still to be taken but at a reduced pressure. The preferred construction shown includes eddy-current damping wires f, in the end g of the valve lever, which cut the field of a permanent magnet e and prevent rapid oscillatory movement of the valve.
