Abstract

618,792. X-ray film packages. KODAK, Ltd. Sept. 17, 1946, No. 27885. Convention date, Sept. 21, 1945. Drawings to Specification. [Class 98 (i)] In a film package a sheet of X-ray film is enclosed by an alloy penetrable by X-rays but opaque to visible light, having a melting point sufficiently below that of the emulsion (which may be hardened) to leave the latter unaffected when the alloy is melted. The alloy may have a melting-point between 110‹ and 170‹ F., and may be Lipowitz or Woods' metal. The package may be formed by placing the film emulsion side down in the middle of a sheet of the alloy having three times the length and breadth of the film, folding the sheet so that there is one layer on the emulsion side and several on the other side which absorb secondary radiation, and sealing either with water soluble cement or by heating to weld together the rear layers. The package may also be formed by dipping the film in the molten alloy ; a separate piece of alloy may first be applied to the rear side for absorbing secondary radiation. After exposure through the single layer, the package is dropped into a light-tight container of hot processing solution, when the alloy covering melts and is subsequently recovered.
