Abstract

<PICT:0618597/III/1> <PICT:0618597/III/2> <PICT:0618597/III/3> In a method of and apparatus for spraying counter-electrode alloy on to rectifier discs, a plurality of discs 22 contained in strips 21-from which they may or may not have been punched previously-is placed on a movable base 3, carried into registering contact with a masking device comprising a belt 16 having apertures 17, 18, and into a spraying zone where alloy from a spray gun 10 is applied through the mask to said discs. On leaving the spray zone the mask 16 is led to a scraping device 23 and brushes 24 for removing superfluous sprayed alloy, whilst the strips with the coated discs 22 are carried forward on the belt 3 from which they are lifted. Correct registry of mask and discs is ensured by studs 25 carried on the belt 3 which engage holes 26 of the rectifier-carrying strips and the larger holes 18 of the masking device. Spring-loaded rollers 19, 20 and the support 9 maintain close contact of mask, discs and moving belt whilst in the spray zone. Rectifie discs referred to comprise a base-plate coated with selenium which is in turn partly covered with insulating material.
