[Classes 35 and 38 (iv)] A motor-generator comprises a flat compounded generator to give constant volts driven by a motor whose excitation is derived mainly from the generator and controlled in accordance with generator volts so that its speed does not vary appreciably with varying supply volts and generator load. The generator may also yield alternating current. As shown, the motor 1 has a small series winding 2 and a winding 3 across the generator 7 which has field windings 8, 9 and a winding 10 in slots in the pole face and a carbon pile regulator 5, 6 controls the resistance in series with winding 3. The A.C. winding 10 feeds fluorescent lamps 14 through a condenser 11 and choke 12 which can be short-circuited. Specification 601,809 is referred to.
