632,056. Alternators ; automatic voltage control systems. ROTAX, Ltd., CULLEN, H. F. T., and BERGEN, S. A. Jan. 22, 1948, No. 1955. [Classes 35 and 38 (iv)] In an alternator which is excited from its own output through a rectifier d, and normally also through a transformer c, an output voltage responsive switch p is arranged to connect the rectifier directly to the alternator windings b at low speeds and to disconnect it when the voltage has risen to a suitable value. The electromagnet q which operates the switch p is energized from the output lines through a rectifier s and a resistance r which is initially short-circuited by the switch p. A manually operated isolating switch u is provided. In order to regulate the voltage output, the field winding a is fed through a saturable reactor f controlled by a carbon pile regulator j, k, energized in dependence on the output voltage, a transformer o dealing with transient current conditions.
