618,370. Drying webs. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co., and Beguin, A. E.). Oct. 28, 1946, No. 31969. [Class 34(i)] A drier is partitioned into a drying chamber and a high pressure chamber, the former containing strip material passing in an oval path over guide rollers and subjected to heated air directed radially inwardly from nozzles, the heated air being re-circulated through the high pressure chamber back to the nozzles. In a preferred embodiment, a rectangular casing 1 contains photographic film which passes from a spool S and rinsing chamber B, through wipers 19 and squeegee members 20, over guide rollers 21, 22 and 23 to rollers 24, and travels in an oval shaped path to a collecting spool 51. Rollers 24 are driven by an endless chain C, frictionally driven by an electric motor 48, via belt 46, gear reduction device 44, sprocket 41, pulley 39, belt 38 and pulley 37. Casing 1 is divided into drying and high pressure air chambers 9 and 10 respectively, Fig. 2, by a wall 8. Air is driven from chamber 9, by a fan 55, through the aperture 56 in the wall 8, to chamber 10. The air is circulated back through openings in the wall 8, through nozzles 51 in the plate 50, directly against the emulsion side of the film. Electric strip heaters 60 are placed in the corner air spaces. Fresh air may be admitted through a slide 15 in the front door 11, and the exit of heated air controlled by a similar slide member 65 in the rear wall 7.
