Abstract

618,200. Roller bearings; vehicle wheels. BAKER, B. H. Nov. 1, 1946, No. 32471. [Classes 12 (i) and 144 (i)] A wheel bearing comprises a hub formed from seamless tubing a, rollers f cut from stock rods and a spindle e cut from a stock rod, all the parts being of bright-drawn steel. The tube may be necked at d to receive wheel discs (Fig. 3, not shown) and the rollers which occupy the annular space between the parts a, e are retained by washers h held by nuts i. The spindle is secured to the body member by nuts j. The tubing a is made from steel having a carbon content of 0.45 per cent whilst the rods e, f are made from steel having a carbon content of 0.35 per cent so as to receive any wear that takes place. The invention is applied to castors and to wheels for barrows, trucks, perambulators, juvenile cycles and toys.
