617,623. Heat or sound insulating coverings. BRUNNZELL, F. H. May 21, 1946, No. 15376. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 17, 1946] [Class 64(ii)] An insulating covering, more particularly heat-insulating jackets for boilers, pipe-lines, &c., built from units each comprising a layer of insulating material secured to the inside of a protecting outer plate, is characterized in that substantially all of said plates 9 Fig. 5 are each secured to the wall 8 to be insulated by means of fixing members 10 comprising an intermediate insulating portion to which are attached two end portions separated from each other, one end portion being secured to the outer plate and the other to the wall. In the form shown in Fig. 3, an insulation mat of glass wool 2 sewn by thin wire 3 to a wire netting foundation 4 is fixed to a protective plate 6 to form a unit which includes fixing members 10. The end portions of the fixing members project beyond the plate edge in order to facilitate attachment to the wall 8, Fig. 5 (in which the insulation mat is not shown) by welding or fitting into sockets (not shown). The units are attached to the wall by the fixing members at one edge of the plates, the other edge being held against the resilience of the glass wool layer 2 by the edge of the succeeding plate. In the case of sound-insulation, paper or woven strip may be used for attachment of the fixing members 10 by fixing over the bent strip ends, the paper or strip being attached by synthetic resin glue.
