Abstract

617,471. Slides for power presses. RHODES, C. J. Oct. 2, 1946, Nos. 29415/46 and 5712/47. [Class 87 (ii)] The ram 4 of a power press is guided by slides comprising a pair of part-cylindrical slidebars 7 bolted one on the face of each side frame member 1 of the press and working in part cylindrical bearings 10 housed in part-cylindrical grooves in lateral extensions 9 of the ram. The slide-bars have longitudinal flats mating with flats machined on the press side members. Alternatively the slide bars 10 may be cylindrical and be located in longitudinal grooves in the press side members. Each bearing 10 comprises a pair of longitudinally spaced bushes of unequal length. The invention is described applied to a C frame crank press, the axes of the crankshaft, ram and slide bars of which are all in the same plane to minimise any tendency of the ram to rock in its guides.
