616,596. Opening cans by tearing. ZEILER PACKUNGEN AKT.-GES. Sept. 18, 1946, No. 27930. Convention date, Sept. 19, 1945. [Class 66] A sheet-metal can 1 is opened by pulling a loop or ring &c. 8 to tear out a rip-wire 6 soldered at 7 between a bead 4 on a recessed, push-in lid 3, and a bead 2 of smaller outside diameter on the rim of the can 1. A strip 5 of paper or cardboard between the two beads 2, 4 prevents solder running in between the two beads. In a modification, a groove 9 is helical and engages with a like groove in the side wall of the lid, or there may be a bayonet joint. In each case the lid can be re-applied after the first opening.
