[Class 12 (iii)] Apparatus for supplying liquid or grease (lubricant) to a plurality of points of use comprises a plurality of individually situated positive displacement members (piston plungers) which are located in scattered relationship each near a place of use of the liquid and all of which are operated by a common fluid under a pulsating pressure to supply a predetermined quantity of the liquid, derived from a common supply conduit separate from the operating-fluid conduit, to each point of use, the pressure fluid being supplied to a chamber at the end of each plunger cylinder into which one end of the plunger projects and the liquid or grease being admitted at a part in the cylinder which is shut-off by the other end of the plunger in its descent. Each individual member 1 comprises a plunger 3 adapted to force lubricant past a non-return valve 5A to an outlet 5 which may be screwed into a bearing or other point of use. The plunger is actuated by pressure fluid acting on a spring-returned piston head 13 and the stroke is determined by inserting shims 14 below the piston head which in conjunction with a spring-pressed sleeve 12 provide a limit to the inward movement ; the plunger movement becomes effective when it closes the port 20 by which the lubricant is admitted to the plunger space. The pressure fluid is admitted by a port 18 in communication with the common supply conduit for the pressure fluid. The pulsating pressure required in the operating-fluid conduit may be given by air pressure admitted by a rotary valve or may be given by oil pumped from the lubricant reservoir, the excess oil on each stroke passing back to the reservoir by a relief valve. A pump having an impulsive discharge stroke is preferably used, whereby leakage losses are reduced. The pulsating pressure is derived from the drive of the vehicle or of the machine for which the lubricating arrangement is provided, so that the amount of lubricant supplied is proportional to the distance travelled by the vehicle, or to the time the machine is in operation.
