Abstract
615,063. Variable-speed friction gearing. SOC. DES FABRICATIONS UNICUM. Aug. 21, 1946, No. 24959. Convention date, Sept. 15, 1943. [Class 80 (ii)] In variable speed friction gearing of the kind where non-coaxial disc members are in frictional contact with bi-conical idler rollers, such as described in Specification 493,152, one of the discs b is axially and rotatably mounted in its carrying shaft y and is connected to its driving or driven shaft y by opposed helical edges d to cause axial displacement under load. The driving member c having the complementary helical edges is keyed in the bore of the shaft y and is urged axially to take up backlash under zero-torque conditions by Belleville washers h which are followed-up by a screw e loaded by the torsion spring f to provide a positive stop through the part-spherically ended distance piece g. The washers h are housed in a cup i which is manually positioned by the rod k and screw j.
