Abstract
614,451. Snap-action switches. ETABLISSEMENTS LABINAL. May 17, 1946, No. 14995. Convention date, May 7, 1945. [Class 38 (v)] A snap-action mechanism for a switch comprises a cam-piece 1 carrying contacts 7 and having working positions corresponding to notches 1<1> which are engaged by rollers 2 biassed by springs R; spring means r transmitting driving force to the cam-piece 1. A push-rod 12, Fig. 2, moves through a distance a<12> to compress the spring r and then through a distance a<1>, positively forcing the rollers 2 out of the notches so that the spring r may snap the cam-piece to the next working position engaging brush contacts 6. As applied to a rotary switch, Fig. 3, a rectangular part 13 of the operating shaft is engaged on both sides by leaf springs r which are secured to a frame 15 rigid with the cam 1. Rotation of the operating shaft through an angle a<12> stresses the springs r, but the cam is not rotated thereby until it has been positively rotated through an angle a<1> by the part 13 bearing on an internal face a. The invention overcomes disadvantages of symmetrical lobe cams wherein snap-action only takes place when the cam 1 is half-way between working positions.
