Abstract

1,097,429. Snap action mechanisms. SVENSKA ELFABRIKS A.B. SELFA. April 9, 1965 [April 24, 1964], No. 15103/65. Heading H2B. [Also in Division F2]. A snap acting actuating mechanism comprises a rotatable shaft 1 carrying a plate 2; a rectilinearly movable member 17 for actuating the contacts of a switch &c. (Figs. 4-7, not shown); a means for transmitting motion between the plate 2 and member 17 and consisting of a linkage 21, 23 and an overcentre spring 4 whose ends are anchored respectively on the plate 2 and one link 21; and a pair of locking links 14, 19 actuated by the plate 2 and co-operating with fixed stops 18, 25 to lock the member 17 in each end position respectively. As plate 2 is rotated to bring point 3 towards the dead centre position a pin 24 slides in a slot 6 in the plate; just before dead centre the end of slot 6 lifts the link 19 away from stop 25 freeing the member 17. Further rotation causes the end of a second slot 5 to drive the other link 14 towards its stop 18; this positively moves the member 17 upwards and through link 23 rotates link 21 thus preventing the mechanism stopping in the dead centre position. As the spring passes over centre links 21, 23 are driven rapidly upwards to bring member 17 to its other end position. The spring also drives the plate 2 clockwise so that slot 5 drives the link 14 overcentre against stop 18 to lock the member 17.
