613,688. Induction heating. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. June 26, 1946, No. 19135. Convention date, June 26, 1945. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XL (c)] An induction heating system comprises a valve oscillator V<1>, V<2> connected by co-axial cables 15, 16, to a turned tank circuit 14 which also comprises the primary of a transformer TR coupling the heating coil 18 to the oscillator. An adjustable reactance 20 in series with the transformer secondary and the work coil, is mechanically coupled to a switch 50 which by means of a relay E 8 places a " keying " resistor 26 of high impedance in the grid circuit of the valve oscillator to stop oscillation thereof and thus remove high frequency power from the circuit before adjustment of the resistance 20 can be made. A relay E 9 is provided to short circuit grid resistors 23, 24, 25, when the anode supply potential is changed by means of a switch (not shown) to a lower value for low power operation. A further relay E 10 is also provided in the grid circuit for inserting resistors 29, 30, 31 in the grid circuit to limit the current therein as an overload protection, if the grid current exceeds the normal value by an amount sufficient to operate relay E10. A process timer 40 may be included to start and stop the supply of high frequency power by means of the relay E 8 operating the " keying " resistor already referred to.
