Abstract

613,450. Cloth expanders. ROBERTSON, J. D. Feb. 21, 1946, No. 5478. Convention date, Feb. 21. 1945. [Class 100(i)] [Also in Group XXV] A cloth expander comprises a rigid curved shaft 10, Fig. 2, of angular crosssection on which are mounted a number of anti-friction units, the inner members 60 of which are spaced apart by sleeves 68 having circular bores of substantially larger diameter than the maximum diameter of the shaft 10, and the outer members 62 of the units having secured thereto cylindrical roller sections 38 supporting a rubber or other resilient sleeve 40 having its ends in engagement with caps 42 secured to the end roller section by screws 44. The screws are locked against working loose by means of a wire passing round a groove 50 in the cap and through the slots in the screw heads, the ends of the wire being anchored in a recess in the cap. Endwise movements of the roll sections is prevented by rings 56 secured to the shaft. The end portions 14 of the shaft 10 are straight and engage between jaw members 18, 20, Fig. 4, having spherical outer surfaces engaging spherical surfaces in fixed bearing blocks 16 to which they are clamped by screws 34.
