613,094. Glass manufacture. SOC. ANON. DES MANUFACTURES DES GLACES ET PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DE ST.-GOBAIN, CHAUNY, & CIREY. Sept..3, 1946, No. 26502. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1945. Addition to 597,838. [Class 56] [Also in Groups XI and XII] Molten unfined glass as it enters a fining chamber as in the parent Specification is supported on a horizontal obstacle, e.g. a grid, whereby it flows into the upper electrically heated fining zone instead of sinking prematurely into the lower body of fined glass. The grid, e.g. of graphite, may be located below or in the hot zone, and in the latter case its bars may comprise electrodes for the heating current. The bars may be arranged parallel to the electrodes 4, 5, or longitudinally of the fining chamber 2, as shown at 12a ... 12d. The outer bars 12a, 12d may be omitted or made shorter than the inner ones 12b, 12c. According to their position, they may affect the heating current path as described in Specification 506,696, [Group XI]. The invention may be used in conjunction with that of Specification 611,401.
