Abstract
612,952. Thermal switches. HEATING INSTALLATIONS, Ltd., and PALMER, I. D. June 11, 1946, No. 17439. [Class 38 (v)] In a glow-discharge switch for starting fluorescent lamps, movement of the free end of a U-shaped bimetal electrode 2 away from a fixed electrode 3 is limited, at low ambient temperatures, by a stop 6, which may alternatively be formed as an extension of the bimetal support, Fig. 3 (not shown). In Fig. 4 (not shown), a U-shaped wire stop is carried by the free end of the bimetal strip, so as to lie within the strip and engage the fixed end thereof. Alternatively, the U-shaped wire stop may also serve as the movable contact, the fixed electrode being positioned between it and the movable arm of the bimetal electrode, Fig. 5 (not shown).
