612,324. Reinforced concrete. FREYSSINET, E. Jan. 30, 1946, No. 2980. Convention date, May 26, 1944. [Class 20(iv)] Prestressed concrete reinforcements are anchored by forming a head 21 by upsetting the end of the reinforcement; the head may bear directly on the concrete or on a separate part, e.g. a metal collar 20. To utilize as a die for this purpose frustoconical recesses 11 formed in the concrete during moulding local reinforcement in the form of a wire helix, a tube or a spiral strip, or hooping 4, 5, covering each or a number of reinforcements 1 is provided. The recesses may be formed by means of a rubber core axially slit to facilitate removal. The end of the reinforcement is heated before upsetting, as by a blowpipe or electrically utilizing a copper clamp. A copper screen may protect the surface of the concrete. The formed head may be covered by a plug of mortar. Specifications 338,864 and 338,934, [both. in Class 20(iv)], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also reinforcement wires of uniform cross-sectional area but not of continuously circular form e.g. alternately circular and elliptical. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specificaion as accepted.
