Abstract
611,577. Batteries. BORNHAUSER, O., and AKKUCONSORTIUM. May 3, 1946, No. 13459. Convention date, May 3, 1945. [Class 53] A battery is provided with a water-soluble depolarizer which is dissolved in a substance which will not mix with water. Diffusion of the depolarizer through the electrolyte towards the negative electrode is thus retarded. Chlorine, bromine and iodine may be used as depolarizers and may be dissolved in carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulphide, soft or hard paraffins, chlorinated hydrocarbons or rubbers or phenol, vinyl, acryl or other synthetic resins. Certain halides of lead, antimony and arsenic are stated to be soluble in the above substances and may be used as depolarizers. The electrodes may consist of zinc and carbon and the latter is placed in contact both with the solution of the depolarizer and the electrolyte.
