Abstract

606,677. Bobbins. ABBEY, A. (American Paper Tube Co.). Aug. 21, 1945, No. 21362. Addition to 606,426. [Class 120(iii)] [Also in Group V] A modification of the bobbin or the like claimed in the parent Specification constitutes a cop-tube or yarn support wherein an end portion of the barrel having an annular plastic sleeve moulded thereon is contracted to form a flange of reduced diameter, around the outside and inside of which the sleeve is moulded. As shown, the flange constitutes an outwardly extending tubular portion 7 of the barrel 2, of reduced diameter, and the sleeve constitutes a bushing 6, of thermosetting material, the outer surface of which is flush with the outer surface of the barrel. The bore 8 of bushing 6 may be slightly tapered to fit the spindle and may be bevelled at 9. The other end of the barrel may have an expanded flange 3 around which a plastic bead 5 is moulded as described in the parent Specification. Both bushing 6-and bead 5 may be moulded simultaneously using a suitably shaped mould and a mandrel inserted in the barrel from the expanded end. The barrel 2 may be formed by winding a paper or other fibrous sheet around a mandrel and cementing the layers together with adhesive.
