605,764. Brake - operating mechanism. DELAY, E. Jan. 4, 1946, No. 356. Convention date, Jan. 22, 1945. [Class 103 (i)] In brake mechanism in which a member urged by the force of a spring or other means to act on a cam becomes effective to assist the application of braking pressure when the brake members reach the effective braking position, the cam 13, as shown, is connected by a link 6 to the pedal operated lever 8 and slides in a casing 1 fastened to a fixed part 5. Helical springs attached to cross-bars 25, 26 on plungers 21, 22 which bear on the spindles of rollers 14, 15 urge these rollers against the cam. When the pedal is operated, the rollers bear on parallel faces 16 of the cam, so that the springs are ineffective, until when the brake members have reached the effective braking position, the rollers bear on the inclined parts 17 of the cam surface and so apply a force to the cam and the lever which is added to that applied by the pedal. Specification 320,790, [Class 103 (i)], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a modification in which the surfaces 16 are slightly inclined in the opposite direction to the surfaces 17 so that the springs act to assist the return movement of the members. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
