Abstract

603,837. Rotary valves..JACK & HEINTZ, Inc. Dec. 28, 1945, No. 35050. Convention date, Jan. 22. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] In a rotary sleeve valve engine wherein the valve has a smaller number of ports than the combined number of intake and exhaust ports, the number of intake ports leading from an intake manifold is greater than the number of exhaust ports leading to an exhaust manifold. The sleeve valve 11 rotates between the cylinder 1 and a stationary liner 10 and has five ports 12 ... 16, controlling intake from a manifold 6 through ports 2 ... 5, and exhaust to a manifold 9 through ports 7, 8. The valve makes one complete revolution during five complete cycles of a four-stroke engine, details being given of the angular spacing of the ports in the cylinder.
