Abstract

603,084. Casting concrete &c. structures in situ. McKEAN, J. L., and RICHARDS, G. Nov. 17, 1944, No. 22842. [Class 20(ii)] Shuttering for casting concrete and reinforced concrete structures, comprises panels, uprights and horizontal members made by'cold rolling strip steel, the panels being of channel section with inturned flange edges and being supported in shuttering position by clamps engaging the inturned flange edges and passing through slots in spaced uprights, means being provided for tensioning the clamps at any desired location along the slots of the uprights. The uprights may consist of four angle irons 6, Fig. 11, assembled to form a member of rectangular section with open sides by channel members 7 secured to the angle irons by welded cleats 8, the shuttering panels 1, which have flanges 2 with beaded edges 3, being secured to the uprights by double or single metal loops 9, 9 having hooked ends 13 engaging within the beaded edges of the panels and tightened by tapered rods 12 driven through the loop projection through the opposite face of the upright. The panels are stiffened by transverse welded angle bars 4. Internal corners are formed by box members 13<2>, Fig. 12, with out-turned flanges 15 secured to angle strips 14, the panels bearing on the flanges 15. External corners are formed by strips 17, Fig. 13, with bevelled edges 17<1> and bolts 19 which project between meeting panels, the strip being secured by a yoke 18 and nut 20. The framing for the panel shuttering is built of uprights and similarhorizontal members bolted together and braced. Strips 21, Fig: 14, and chamfer boards 24 to form recesses &c. on the face of the structure may be fitted, the strip 21 being of open box section and being secured to adjacent panels by a plate bearing on the inside of the flanges of the open side and having a lug 23 projecting between the panel flanges and clamped by a tapered cottar 12<1>. The panels may be in two widths e.g. 9 in. and 12 in..and filler strips of wood may be used to complete shuttering of odd dimensions.
