Abstract

603,048. Tubular lamp fittings. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., BELL, T. F. P., and TYE, R. L. M. Nov. 16, 1945, No. 30878. [Classes 75(ii), 75(iii) and 75(iv)] A fitting for an electric discharge lamp 10 comprises an open bottomed casing 1, connected by deformable suspension means 35, 39 with a sub-assembly including a reflector 3 and at least part of the control gear housed between the reflector and the casing. The reflector 3 may be supported from a platform 18 by headed bolts 19 engaging in keyhole slots 20, Fig. 3, and the platform may be suspended from the casing 1 by links 35, 39, pivoted at one end 41 to the casing and at the other end 26 to the upstanding ends 24 of flat transverse bars 22 fixed to the platform. The extreme ends 29 of the bars 22 may be bent outwardly and carry bars 33 adapted to rest in hooks 48 mounted in the side of the casing, these hooks 48 being attached to outwardly spring urged members 49. The reflector subassembly may be disengaged by raising the platform 18 till the bars 33 are free of the hooks 48 which then spring outwardly to allow the sub-assembly to be lowered. It may be returned to normal position by pushing it up beyond the hooks 48 and then operating the members 49 to return the hooks to their engaging position, or the hooks 48 may be pivoted so that the members 49 may be operated first, and the sub-assembly then pushed up past the hooks till these are clear of the bars 33 when they drop into engaging position. The links 35 may be provided with stops 43. Fig: 3, so that they do not open beyond a fixed angle A less than 180 degrees, and the reflector 3 may be apertured to allow passage of the ends of the tubular lamp 10. the ends 11 of the reflector 3 serving, if desired, to support some, or all, of the control gear. In an alternative form, the reflector sub-assembly may be hinged at one end to the casing and be locked at the other end by releasable means, folding links being provided to limit the downward swing of the sub-assembly.
