Abstract

Isobutene and vinyl halides or vinylidene halides are copolymerized in emulsion. Vinyl and vinylidene chlorides are specified. Acrylic and methacrylic acid esters or acrylonitrile may also be present. Suitable emulsifying agents are sodium cetyl sulphate and turkey red oil and suitable catalysts are hydrogen peroxide, potassium persulphate and perborates. The emulsion may also contain stabilisers, plasticisers, fillers and colouring matters. The products are soluble in methyl cyclohexanone and mixtures thereof with xylene or butyl acetate and mixtures of benzene and methyl ethyl ketone, and may be formed into adhesive films. In an example, a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and potassium persulphate is used as catalyst. Specifications 570,330, 570,711, 573,086, 579,353 and 584,795 are referred to.
