601,625. Rope-driven conveyers. SUTCLIFFE, R. J., SUTCLIFFE, T. D., SHEPPARD, J., and SUTCLIFFE, W. F. Sept: 18, 1945, No. 24074. [Class 78 (i)] A tensionless belt 1, Fig. 1, which may be troughed by idler rollers 5 is driven by endless rope 2 which engages clips 3 secured at intervals to the belt. The clips 3 may have a frictional lining. Alternatively, the clips may be secured to another rope (not shown) which itself may be secured to the belt. The rope 2 runs over pulleys 10 along its length, to the supports 16 of which bars 15 may be fixed so that the clips and therefore the belt may be aligned. Two or more ropes may be used. The rope may be driven by being wrapped round a driving pulley (not shown) several times and is returned either round pulley 11 or round a separate centre pulley (not shown) on belt drum 6. To accommodate the clips, belt end drums 6 and idler rollers 10 may be divided or split. The rope may engage the clips on both upper and lower stretches. Guiding means 12 may guide the driving rope accurately between the clips.
