601,287. Sharpening lawn mower blades. CRAIG, J., and EMMETT, A. F. Nov. 19, 1945, No. 31037. [Class 60] A mower blade sharpening attachment of the type which comprises a hone, means for adjustably mounting the hone on the ground plate or bottom blade of the mower in a position to engage the cutting edges of the rotary blades during their rotation, and means for clamping the mounting in a desired position of adjustment along the said bottom blade, comprises a rectangular box-like mounting 3 having a first open-mouth slot 2 for receiving a hone 1 and opening through one face of the mounting, a second open-mouth slot 4 for receiving the mower bottom blade 6 and extending at right-angles to the first slot 2 from a point adjacent the mouth thereof, means 7, 17 for clamping the bottom blade 6 in the second slot 4, means 8 for adjusting the extent to which the hone 1 projects from the first slot 2, and means 9, 10 for clamping the hone in the adjusted position. The bottom plate 6 may be replaced by one of heavier gauge and may be grooved for engagement by a ball 17. For a final trueing of the rotary blades the clamping means 7 is loosened and the mounting moved slowly to and fro along the bottom blade.
