599,979. Adjustable shaft-couplings. GOSS PRINTING PRESS CO., Ltd. Sept. 26, 1945, No. 25016. Convention date, Sept. 27, 1944. [Class 80(ii)] [Also in Group XVI] To enable a printing-cylinder 10 to be adjusted axially and circumferentially while the machine is in motion the shaft 14 of the cylinder is connected by an adjustable clamp to a flange 19 which is driven by a collar 25 formed with an internal spur gear 49 and an internal helical gear 26 which is driven by a helical gear 45 secured to a tubular shaft 34 driven from a main shaft 27 by means of enclosed bevel gears 31, 32. The spur gear 49 is narrower than the gear 48, and axial adjustment of the shaft 14 without interruption of the drive is obtained by means of a sliding screwed rod 50 operated by a rotation in a fixed nut 51, the rod 50 being connected to the flange 19 by means of a plate 58 and screws 59. To adjust the cylinder 10 circumferentially, the collar 25 is moved axially by a pivoted yoke 70 operated by a screw 66, and formed with rollers 80 which normally fit loosely between flanges 86 on the collar 25. On operation of he screw 25 the flange is moved axially anc the movement imparted to the helical gear 26 causes angular adjustment of the flange relatively to the driving shaft 34.
