Abstract

599,640. Fluid-pressure servomotors. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER. Sept. 14, 1945, No. 23790. Convention date, Oct. 18, 1944. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVII] In an engine which works under varying atmospheric pressure, the pressure of air supplied by a supercharger 1 is adjusted by a regulating member (throttle valve 4 as shown) and the regulating member is actuated under the control of a fluid pressure operated control member (diaphragm 18) displaceable in one direction by the pressure in the part of the induction piping leading to a power throttle valve 3 and in the opposite direction by a spring 22 and the critical pressure at the throat of a nozzle 26 supplied with air at the pressure (referred to) in the induction pipe, the arrangement being such that when this pressure is at the required maximum working pressure, the fluid-operated member is maintained in a position of equilibrium with the regulating member adjusted to control the air supply in accordance with the power output and the atmospheric pressure, any increase in the pressure above the maximum working pressure producing a displacement of the fluid-operated member whereby the regulating member is actuated to reduce this pressure. A space 20 above the diaphragm 21 is made as small in volume as possible so that the nozzle can be kept as small as possible to minimize the loss through it and a short pipe 27 is used to connect the space 20 to the nozzle.
