Abstract
599,324. Indexing. WATTS & SON, Ltd., E.R., GODFREY, C. J., and TOWNS, V. W. H. Sept. 14, 1945, No. 23784. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] To eliminate centering and graduation errors in machine tools having a rotary circular table with a divided circle, the latter is read by an optical system which projects images of two diametrically opposite portions of the scale in superposition or juxtaposition on to a screen or into an eyepiece. As shown, a lamp 4 illuminates the scale 2 at diametrically opposite points by means of prism 5, lenses 6 and prism 8, the two images of these points of the scale being projected to the screen 14 via prism 9, lens 10, prism 12 and lens 13. A fine reading arrangement comprises a refractor block 7 pivoted about a vertical axis 15 to deflect one scale image, the fine reading scale 11 carried thereby also being visible on the screen 14 or in the eyepiece.
