[Class 100 (ii)] Shelf edgings, coverings &c. are formed by uniting two or more plies of thermoplastic or thermosetting materials one of which is embossed to form a raised design and another of which is printed with a design which registers at least in part with the embossed design the printed design being arranged between two plies. As shown in Fig. 1 a backing ply 1 is first printed on its upper surface by a printing-couple P, P<1>, and is then united to a plastic layer 3 delivered from an extruder 4. A band 2 carries the united layer under an embossing roller E which embosses the ply 3 in register with the printed design which is enclosed between the plies. In a modification the layer 3 may be combined with a printed layer 5, Fig. 5, which joins the extruded layer 3 ahead of the extruder, and the embossing roller E embosses both the layers 3, 5. The layer 5 is printed by rollers P, P<1>, and a layer 1 is also printed with a design by rollers P<2>, P<3>, but the layer 1 is formed with a flat undersurface. The layer 3 is of transparent material. The layer 1 may be omitted. Similar products may be obtained by flat printing and embossing machines. The plastic materials used may be transparent synthetic resins, or cellulosic materials, and if thermosetting resins are used they are set by heat after the embossing process.
