Abstract
598,030. Ear protectors. COBBE, H. N. G., [trading as MALLOCK-ARMSTRONG CO.], and HENERY, W. L. Aug. 29, 1945, No. 22252. [Class 81 (ii)] A sound-insulating device for the ears comprises two shells la connected by a resilient steel or cane frame 2, each shell containing a pad 4 of kapok, &c., and a ring 3 of sponge rubber, felt, &c. A linen or wool cover 17 is provided. The frame is resiliently coupled to the shells through rubber blocks 7, each bonded to a stem 8a connected to a shell, and to a stem 8 formed with collars 12 slotted to accommodate the end of the frame, and with a clamping nut 13. A crown pad 14 of sponge rubber or felt is provided. In a modified construction, each shell is formed of two pieces having radiating " spokes " terminating in peripheral rings, the two being arranged in spaced relation by a washer on stem 8a with the peripheral rings in contact with the spokes in each part obscuring the openings in the other, and the interspace between the two parts being filled with a mattress of kapok.
