Abstract
597,922. Impedance-matching. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. Oct. 18, 1945, No. 27438. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1944. [Class 40 (iii)] Impedances Z1, Z2, which may be complex, are matched and their reactive components are cancelled by means of a section 11, 12 of transmission line, less than (and preferably a quarter or three-quarters of) a wavelength long, and having a characteristic impedance ZO' ; and of two or more sliable members 15, 16 which change the characteristic impedance to a suitable value Z0<11> and are each about onequarter as long as the line 11, 12 physically, and not longer than a quarter of a wavelength electrically. The dimensions are such that if the members 15, 16 are of conductive or dielectric material, Z0<1>> #(Z1Z2) >Z0<11>, but if they are of magnetic material Z0<11> > #(X1X2) > Z0<1>. The Specification describes, with reference to Figs. 2, 4 (not shown), a graphical method for positioning the members 15, 16 so as to obtain any desired complex transformation ratio within the available range. The members may be clamped in position by means of screws 25 which are accessible through a slot 40. A coaxial line of impedance Z2 connected at 31 may be coupled to two coaxial lines, each of impedance Z2, i.e. 2Z1, which are connected in parallel at 30, 30, by means of a tee-shaped termination 27, 29, with a conductive end-plate at 35, the members 15, 16 being so placed as to give a 2: 1 tranformation ratio. Specifications 572,739 and 597,923 are referred to.
