Abstract
608,481. Electric resonators. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. Feb. 25, 1946, No. 5834. Convention date, Feb. 24, 1945. [Class 40 (viii)] An attenuator for high-frequency electric energy comprises in cascade three or more similar lengths of high-frequency conduit having a characteristic admittance greater than the equal terminating admittances between which the attenuator is to be connected, each length being approximately equal to one-quarter of a wavelength therein of the high-frequency energy and between each length there are disposed equal shunt dissipative admittances in number one less than the number of lengths of conduit. In the example shown, the attenuator is formed by a coaxial line 11 and 13 divided by thin conducting elements 31 into similar lengths which contain dielectric plugs of polystyrene. The elements 31 may be formed of carbon deposited on the ends of the polystyrene blocks. The inner conductor 11 may be composed of sections embedded in the blocks and connected by pin-and-socket connections. The use of a solid dielectric enables the line 13 to be of the same diameter as the air-filled lines to which it is connected at each end. If the line 13 is airfilled, its diameter must be less than the connecting lines or the diameter of the internal conductor 11 must be increased. Specification 482,420 is referred to.
