597,892. Friction grips. HINTON, T. H. and MIDDLETON & CO., Ltd., J. W. March 8,1945, No. 5798. [Class 44] An adjustable support for lamps or other articles of the kind comprising a sleevelike casing 3 with an internal friction-grip wovenwire or rubber tube 8 adapted on slight extension to grip an upstanding support rod 2 peripherally, the load being applied to the lower end of the frictiongrip tube to ensure such slight extension and the friction grip being releasable by operation of a bush 10 slidable on the rod to shorten the friction grip tube and so expand it peripherally, has the releasing bush 10 extended upwardly beyond the sleeve-like casing 3 so that it can be directly hand-actuated as by a flange thereon. The flanged bush 10 is retained in an end cap 4 by a circumferential rib 11 and is adapted on depression to engage a soldered-ring end 9 of the woven-wire tube 8. The sleeve-like casing 3 is supported from a collar 7 at the lower end of the friction-grip tube through a spring 6 which bears against the upper end cap 4.
