[Classes 132 (ii) and 132 (iii)] A multipart toy comprises a flying top, Fig. 10, formed of a propeller 1 having a plurality of balanced blades carried at the end of a shaft 3 the other end 4 of which is weighted, means for imparting motion to said top and a top receiving member, Fig. 22, comprising a plate and handle therefor. The propeller may be of any shape (Figs. 1, 6), and the blades may be surrounded by a ring 2. The blades are twisted slightly out of the horizontal. The shaft 3 may be integral with the propeller or may be affixed or secured thereto by any known means, and it may be fluted or channelled to form a pinion to facilitate the driving of the top. The spinning device in Fig. 15 comprises a handle 5 carrying a transverse axle 6 provided with a crank 7. A toothed wheel 8 is provided on said axle, the teeth of which engage the flutings 13 on the shaft 3 of the top which is supported on an extension 10 of the handle, the end of the extension being screw-threaded to receive the foot 12 of the top. On turning the handle rapidly the top is quickly unscrewed, a lifting force being created enabling it to fly off the extension. It falls to the ground after a time and continues to spin, unless caught on the top receiving member Fig. 22. This member is formed from a plate or blade 30 extended at one of its ends in the shape of a tongue 31 interposed between two half-handles 32. Hollows 33 and 34 are provided at the other end of the plate. A small flange 35 may be provided as a safety measure. The plate is used to catch the top as it falls, and then the player guides by tilting the plate on the still-spinning top into one of the hollows. If these hollows are provided with numbers, the numbers carried by these hollows dnto which he guides the top count as his score. The plate may be decorated in any suitable manner, for example, it may carry the silhouette of an aeroplane. Devices are described for the simultaneous spinning and ejection into the air of a number of tops and also several forms of a combined spinning device and top-receiving member.
