Abstract

597,437. Air compressors. THORNTON, A. C. Aug. 17, 1945, No. 21098. [Class 8 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] An air compressor comprises a rotary compressor 6, Fig. 1, of the sliding vane type (see Group XXVI) which delivers air to a multicylinder reciprocating pump having radially arranged cylinders 10, 11 adjacent the rotary compressor. The pump cylinders 10, Fig. 3, in which reciprocate pistons 16 form a second stage and cylinder 11 and piston 16 form a third stage, the pistons being driven from the vane rotor shaft 5 through eccentrics 18 and rods 17. Air from the rotor 6 is delivered through a duct 8 past automatic inlet valves 9 to the second stage cylinders 10, and then past automatic exhaust valves 13, through conduits 14 to the cylinders 11 of the third stage and thence past a delivery valve 15. Accumulators 19 associated with the ducts 8, 14 ensure smooth air-flow.
