Abstract
596,774. Water-gas plant. BURNS, W. L., GIBSON, J. W., and BALFOUR & CO., Ltd., H. Aug. 3, 1945, No. 19989. [Class 55 (i)] In water-gas plant comprising a retort or carbonizing zone 10 and a gasification zone 11 above an inclined grate 12 beneath which air is admitted, an annular flue 14 communicates at its lower end with zone 11 and serves in turn as an upward passage for blast gases and as a downward superheating passage for steam and enrichment vapour. Air is admitted to the grate by a pipe 13 having a bleeder connection 18. Blast gases leave the plant by an outlet pipe 25 and steam is introduced to the annular passage through a pipe 15 together with vaporized enrichment medium from a tank 16. The retort structure has a cover 19, a charging hopper 20 and a gas off-take 21. Specification 585,040 is referred to.
