Abstract
596,582. Pipe or rod joints. GASCOIGNE CO., Ltd., G. H., and GASCOIGNE. G. H. Nov. 20, 1944, No. 23044. [Class 99 (i)] In a joint for tubes or rods, particularly for metal furniture, a captive bolt 3 having limited axial freedom is rotatably mounted within the end of the tube 1 and is adapted to be screwed into a plug 5 secured in the open end of the tube 2 by rotation of a member 6. The bolt has a flat 3c and the bore of the disc 6 is of D-section so as to be keyed to the bolt. The disc is of the same external diameter as the tubes and has spigots 6a which fit into the tubes. The bolt-head engages the rear of a plug 4 brazed or riveted to the tube 1 and a pin 7 limits the movement of the bolt so that its stem always projects from the member 6. Wrench-engaging notches 6d are provided. Instead of the block 4 and pin 7, a retaining member 14, Fig. 5, may be fitted in the tube 1 and secured therein after the bolt-head has been located behind the slotted front face 14d, movement being limited by the rear disc 14a.
