Abstract

596,231. Spray - guns. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and OSBORN, A. B. Nov. 17, 1944, No. 22816. [Class 69 (iii)] Relates to spray-guns of the type employing a continuous supply of compressed air so that liquid issuing from an orifice is entrained, in the form of spray, into an air stream flowing past the orifice. According to the invention, the orifice is formed by one end of a capillary tube of uniform bore, unobstructed by any now-regulating device, the other end of the tube being connected to a liquid reservoir and the spray emerges from the gun without any subsequent obstruction. In the form shown, the gun comprises a body 1 provided with a handle 11 which is fixed to a stand 12. Compressed air is supplied to the body through an inlet port 3 and emerges from the cap 5 through an annular passage 19 between the cap and a bushing 13 which supports a capillary tube 4, the air-flow being regulated by a valve 14 operated by a trigger 15. The capillary tube, which carries the spraying liquid from a container 7 to an orifice at its outer end adjacent to the cap 5, is soldered to a tube 6 dipping into the liquid, and is supported at an intermediate point in its length by a bushing 9, a shield 10 being provided to protect the otherwise exposed portion of its length. The capillary tube is not provided with now-regulating means, the liquid being drawn along the tube by the low pressure produced at the orifice. A sight 17 is provided on the upper part of the body. In a modification, the tube 4 terminates above the end of an inlet 2 to which the container 7 is fixed, the inlet tube 2 being extended downwardly to dip into the liquid. In this construction interchangeable capillary tubes may be employed, each tube being mounted in a separate bushing 13. Specification 318,621, [Class 69 (iii)], is referred to.
