Abstract
595,158. Clips; clothes-pegs. BEST, F. April 16, 1945, Nos. 9388 /45 and 4324/46. [Class 44] A clip for use as a clothes-peg, or for gripping documents or the like comprises two jaw members A, B held together solely by a spring having a substantially circular central portion E from which extend substantially straight arms E<2>, the spring being received in recesses or slots in the jaws so as to be practically entirely enclosed thereby. The jaws have extensions D serving as finger-pieces for operating the jaws. As shown, the spring arms extend through slots in the jaws and are anchored therein by their bent-over ends F. Fig. 2 shows a clip suitable for a clothes-peg. Fig. 4 shows a clip in which the jaws A, B are extended and formed with semi-cylindrical portions A<1>, B<2> to provide a split tubular housing for the cylindrical portion E<1> of the spring. The finger-pieces D are centrally disposed and house similarly disposed spring arms E<2>. A tubular rubber lining with flanged ends may be inserted through the cylindrical parts A<1>, B<1>, E<1> and the arm of a window fitting or display stand may be passed through said lining when the clip is used for display purposes. The finger-pieces may have holes therein to allow the clip to be suspended. The clip may be of stainless steel; anodized aluminium, or other metal, or of wood or plastic. The spring may be of stainless steel or zinc finished.
