Abstract
591,910. Liquid raising apparatus. KIRKLEES, Ltd., and HAMER, T. S. Dec. 21, 1944, No. 25603. [Class 102 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a compressed air or steam operated liquid raising apparatus as described in Specification 541,953, a closed box D is arranged inside and immediately below the upper cover a of the pressure vessel A, one limb d<1> of a symmetrical U pipe connects with the bottom of the box D and extends inside to within a short distance of the top, the other limb d' is open to the pressure vessel A outside the box D; the raising pipe d' is also open to the inside of the box D as is the delivery pipe a' immediately above it to permit a free flow of liquid between the latter two pipes and also a retarding effect on the U pipe discharge flow, thus ensuring its complete seal until the liquid level in the pressure vessel A reaches the lower end of the pipe d'. Liquid enters the pressure vessel A through the valve E which has on its motion side an annular chamber e' wherein air is trapped to provide a cushion to liquid surge and prevent vibration of the non- return ball valve e.
