[Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] In a portable electric drilling-machine, an elastic coupling between the motor and tool spindles consists of a helical spring with an axially protruding semi-circular loop at one end engaging a diametral slot in the end of one of the spindles. The motor is mounted in a casing a and the armature spindle d is mounted in ball bearings e, f and carries a ventilating fan g. A detachable sleeve h supports the tool spindle i on two ball bearings j, k and between the two spindles is the helical spring m, secured to the motor spindle by a socket member n and having a loop m<1> engaging a slot l<1> in a socket member l on the tool spindle. At the other end, the tool spindle has flats d<1> for the engagement of a spanner and also a conical socket p in which a split tool-holding collet q is adjustable by a nut r.
