Abstract

591,397. Electric resonators. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. May 22, 1945, No. 12814. Convention date. June 27, 1944. [Class 40 (iii)] A half-wave resonator, tunable without sliding contacts, comprises parallel conductors 13, 14, short-circuited by end plates 11, 12, and tuned by means of a condenser with fixed plates 16, 17, connected symmetrically at 20 ... 23 to the conductors 13, 14 respectively, and movable plates 18 of the butterfly type. The spindle 19 lies in the electrically neutral plane of the resonator so that it does not couple the latter to external circuits and is unaffected by the neighbourhood of the band in tuning. The resonator may be any odd number of half-wave-lengths, long. It is provided with an electrostatic screen 10 and magnetic loops 24, 26 or electrostatic probes for coupling to one or two external circuits. Parasitic oscillations circulating through the conductors 13, 14 in parallel and the screen 10 may be damped out by connecting a 100 ohm resistance with wiping contact between the spindle 19 and screen 10. The spacing between the axes of the conductors 13, 14 is preferably 2.7 times the diameter of each conductor.
