Abstract
591,087. Work-holders. HAMBER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and CLARKE, H. G. April 27, 1945, No. 10635. [Class 83 (iii)] An adjustable work-holder comprises a clamp 9 having one end for engaging the work and the opposite end serrated for engaging like serrations 6 on a transverse support 5, means for looking the clamp and support together, and means for securing the clamp to the. work. The serrated end of the clamp is adjusted to suit the level of the work to be engaged, and by means of a bolt 10 passing through a slot 4 in the support, the two members are secured together. A bolt engaging the work-table extends through a slot 12 in the clamp, and a nut secures the clamp in position. The ends of the support are curved to allow for slight obliquity in setting. The serrations may be slightly inclined across the faces of the members to provide a fine adjustment. A machined face may be provided on the clamp for seating the securing nut and washer. In a modification, the clamp may be straight instead of cranked, and the work-engaging end tapered instead of square, whilst a stud may be employed instead of a bolt for locking the clamp to the work. The clamp and support members may be made from steel stampings.
